When you walk into the convenience store, do you ever stop and ask yourself, how much of the music that I’m hearing in this given store has either auto-tuned vocals on it or heavily pitch corrected vocals?
The answer will usually lie between at least 50-66%
This staggering statistic is completely based on guesstimation, as will be most of my future Shmusings: Rough statistics based on my spidey instincts. But you should try this: Go to a convenient store, stand around for 15 minutes. Maybe take your time choosing the beer you want to consume and then mathematically analyze if most of (if not all of) the music you are hearing has perfectly pitch corrected vocals. For some people, if not 1 in 2, (another guesstimation made by yours truly) it’s really hard to tell what pitch corrected vocals actually sound like, but once you get really familiar with the sound of heavily pitch corrected vocals, you will always know when it is happening.
